Desa is a home-based caterer located in Kaingahou Estate (NZ Heritage Building est. 1903), Palmerston North, New Zealand. Since 2016, we have introduced and provided authentic Indonesian cuisine to people around the area. It is our mission to bring the richness and beauty of Indonesian flavours to you, wherever you are in New Zealand.
CATERING
DESA provides a warm private environment that is unique for your functions, meetings, conferences, and refreshments. We can cater for small or large gatherings with a variety of flexible menu options (see here). Our food and beverage standards will definitely satisfy your guests’ palate.
INDONESIAN DINING EXPERIENCE
Liwetan
A must try at DESA is the iconic Liwetan – which is an Indonesian traditional dining style that features rice and a choice of different side dishes served on a banana leaf spread, from grilled prawns and chicken satay to tofu and tempeh. Want prawn crackers and sambal with that? Go for it. Lettuce, cucumber, and tomato? Have at it. Reserve here.
Hidang
The charm of Padang (Minangkabau) cuisine lies not only in its myriad of dishes but also in its serving style, called hidang. After the guests are seated, they do not have to order. Rather, a table will be set with dozens of small dishes filled with various dishes. Reserve here.
Indonesian High Tea
Want to enjoy some quality time with your mother, sister, girlfriends – or maybe your partner? Get all dolled up and enjoy our mouth-watering delicacies in a pristine setting of Kaingahou Estate. Our Indonesian High Tea consists of homemade Indonesian savoury snacks and sweets. Reserve here.
DESA TO-GO
Desa To-Go is ready-to-eat meals that can be picked up at our place or delivered at your doorstep. Our signature dishes such as Nasi Goreng, Mie Goreng, and Nasi Padang, are available throughout the week, but watch out for our “This Week’s Special” as this will be different from time to time.
